Franki so na za\u010detku 12. stoletja na gri\u010du postavili trdnjavo, zaradi la\u017ejega nadzora Dravske doline pred mad\u017earskimi vpadi. Grad se prvi\u010d omenja v pisnih dokumentih 20. oktobra 1164 kot castrum Marchburg \u2013 grad v marki, v nem\u0161\u010dini Burg in der Mark ali Markpurg, Markburg, kasneje pa Marburg. Najverjetneje pa je grad stal na gri\u010du \u017ee pred tem, kajti leta 1124 zasledimo omembo mejnega grofa Podravske krajine iz rodu Spanheimov, s predikatom Mariborski \u2013 Bernard Mariborski.\u00a0<\/p><p>V listini vojvode Leopolda VI. Babenber\u017eana je leta 1209 Maribor omenjen kot forum Marchuprch, torej kot trg. Maribor pa se prvi\u010d omenja kot mesto v listini iz dne 4. december 1254, in sicer kot civitatem Marpurg.\u00a0<\/p><p>Do za\u010detka 19. stoletja ima mesto nem\u0161ko ime Marburk, ki ga Slovenci popa\u010dijo v Marprok, da pa ne bi pri\u0161lo do zamenjave z nem\u0161kim mestom Marburg \u2013 Marburg an der Lahn so za\u010deli mesto zapisovati kot Marburg an der Drau (Marburg na Dravi). \u00a0<\/p><p>V pismu Ljudevitu Gaju, 10. 11. 1836, Stanko Vraz prvi\u010d uporabi zapisa slovenskega imena Marbor. Vraz se je pri prevodu zgledoval po nem\u0161kem prevodu imena Branibor, ki so ga Nemci prevedli v Brandenburg. Tako je obdr\u017eal prvi del besede Mar, nem\u0161ki burg pa je spremenil v bor. Kasneje je opustil uporabo Marbor in za\u010del dosledno uporabljati ime Maribor. Njegovemu zgledu so leta 1838 za\u010deli slediti njegovi prijatelji, ki so za\u010deli uporabljati ime Maribor.<\/p><p>Ime Maribor je naletelo med Slovenci na odpor in tako je borba za uveljavitev Maribora trajala naslednjih 25 let.\u00a0<\/p><p>Imenu da pomen slovenski dr\u017eavni poslanec Lovro Toman (politik in pesnik, avtor prvega slovenskega necenzuriranega tiska) z izdajo pesmi Mar i bor. Ime Maribor se je tako kon\u010dno uveljavilo med Slovenci in slovensko geslo mesta tako postane\u00a0<\/p><p><em><strong>Mar i bo \u2013 MAR MI JE I(in) BORim se za to mesto.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><p><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section
